Students can be assured of quality, profesional instruction from tutors who understand their needs and work patiently to improve their academic skills. On average, students receive two hours of tutoring twice per week, for five weeks. If necessary, the Student Learning Plan (and any other related documents) is (are) translated into the student's native language. Student progress is monitored continually thoughout the program, in order to develop formative information about the child's progression toward the goals and objectives identified in the Student Learning Plan. A t the conclusion of the tutoring program, a follow-up post-tutoring assessment is administered to measure this progress as well as the impact of the tutoring program.

BEST has succesfully served students with a wide range of disabilities, including visual impairment, learning disability, students with Individualized Education Plan and students with limited English proficiency. Working with various Southern California county social service agencies, BEST has successfully aided hundreds of foster children and youth on probation or deemed "at risk."

Supplemental Education Services (SES) are tutoring or other supplemental academic enrichment activities that take place beyond the regular school day. Parents select services from California Department of Education approved Supplemental Education Service Providers. Students are eligible for services if they are attending a Program Improvement school (years 2-5) and are from low income families.

This is how you can determine if your school is in year two through five of adequate yearly progress.

1. Go to the California Department of Education web site:

2. Type in the first few letters of your school district - PRESS ENTER

3. Select District from the list on the pulldown menu and select Adequate Yearly Progress Report  for the current year(20XX) – PRESS ENTER

4. Scroll down until you see your student’s school. Now look in the far right hand column. If that column reads year 2 thru year 5 your school is eligible for the tutoring program.

5. If your school is eligible for the program you should contact the school for further information. You can also look at our provider frair information to see if we have already scheduled a provider fair at your school.
